Comments
Comments: No snow on the trails. My guess at the trail surface conditions were 95% dry trail, 4% ice, and 1% minor mud or wet areas. Did not use any traction. The ledges below the south outlook on Mt Whiteface had very little ice and were easily ascended in bare boots. The trail sections with the most ice were various stretches on the Rollins Trail, spots on the Dicey's Mill Trail uphill from the junction with the Rollins Trail, the Walden Trail from Mt Passaconaway down to East Loop, and sections of the trail out to the north outllok on Mt Passaconaway. All icy areas could be managed with careful foot placement or bypasses. All tree falls could be stepped over or straddled.

Saw one Painted Trillium, many Red Trillium, a patch of Trout Lilies, and Shad Bush in bloom.
Although both mountains have wooded summits there were great views from the many outlooks in all directions.

Met many hikers on the trails today.
