Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Small crossings were very easy. Major crossing of Little River was easy, but the second large rock to step on was coated in ice. Almost ate it into the river. Instead of searching for alternative I harnessed my inner acrobat/yoga instructor and made it work. Crossings are all pretty slow and low
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Great shape. A few blowdowns here and there. It seemed like fire wardens had a lot more blowdowns than it did last time so was there mid-winter.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw the same poorly behaved “service dogs” that I encountered last month on iso. Pair of Aussie shepherds in orange service vests. Last month they aggressively rushed my 8-year old (who loves dogs) and scared her pretty good. Later that hike we encountered some responsible dog owners who stated the shepherds came at their dog(who was very sweet) aggressively. Today they were running way ahead of the guy and ran after me a ways, and were not listening to the guy at all. Beware. Luckily later in the day I had a pleasant encounter with a pack of three VERY large and VERY sweet boys who all got some love. please don’t let poorly behaved aggressive dogs run loose on trail to terrorize other dogs and children!!!

Comments
Comments: Not much to add to Chad’s report other than there was almost no ice on the twins as well. Very tiny patches very seldomly encountered all day. Saw lots of friendly hikers and chatted with a few other gridiots. Had great chat with “crutches” who is flip flopping the AT. After getting struck on his motorcycle and dragged underneath a truck a year ago, breaking both his legs as well as many other horrendous injuries, he is attempting a through hike to find healing and regain his ability to walk crutch-free. He had a massive pack and a large backpack/front pack as well, and….crutches. I was feeling sorry for myself a bit this morning as I’m dealing with an injury that is absolutely nothing compared to what this dude has endured. This encounter really slapped me awake and motivated me to finish the hike/run strong, and to stop being pathetic. He had an awesome positive attitude and great outlook on life. I’ve chatted with hundreds of through hikers but this guy had the most interesting and inspiring story to date. A real gem of a November day-trail conditions don’t get better this time of year. Prezi’s were looking real frosty!!!
