Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at a small wayside (okay for 2-3 cars) on Blackjack Road, 8 miles from East of River Road in Milan - almost directly North of the NW peak. There is a vista area (signage) and a bench approx. 1/2 mile further ahead and in another 1/2 mile the road is gated. Route: Hill Road (2 miles north of the airport landing strip), Blake Road, Bog Brook Road, Blackjack Road. Some maps have Blackjack Road as Black Mountain Path. Blake Road is newly paved. There is some signage at the entrance to Bog Brook Road suggesting closure due to logging. Spoke to some local folks and they said: "nothing is closed". The signage may be directed at ATV/Snowmobile traffic. There is no current logging along this route but a logging staging area along Bog Brook Road looks like having been used fairly recently. So, logging may resume in winter. Blackjack Road (2 miles) is rough (5-10mph). AWD and medium/high clearance recommended. May be doable in regular passenger cars but dry conditions and a great deal of caution would be required. The rest of the route is in excellent shape. Note: The entrance to Blackjack Road (at the intersection with Bog Brook Road) is blocked by cones. There are a couple of houses on the corner, and this looks like it is done by one of the property owners (there are also a couple of unfriendly looking dogs roaming around). Continue another 100 yards or so and there is an entrance to a road (0.1 mile) which loops around the private property and back to Blackjack Road. There is trail kiosk on the corner, and the road is visible on Gaia but not on Google maps.

Comments
Comments: Headed straight south from the wayside parking area along an old skidder trail which leads very close to the NW summit. It is heavily overgrown but good/easy to follow with the leaves down. May not be so great in other seasons.

Lots of dead "stuff" along the ridge between the 2 peaks but the woods are relatively open and friendly.

Headed straight north from the SE peak to intersect Blackjack Road. There is "ledgy" area a short distance from the summit with great views over Umbagog Lake. An area with young spruce growth is unavoidable. Picked up moose-path which led to another skidder trail. Eventually had to cut away from this trail to connect to the road through open woods.

Both peaks are recognized. Canisters are black.
