Comments
Comments: Beautiful late fall day; warmer than I expected. Never needed another layer and there was no wind at Isolation Summit. Rocky Branch Trail to 1st river crossing in great shape save for the heavy leaves which require care on descent. There was still some ice on a few rocks at 1st river crossing so be careful on early morning crossings this time of year. Considered bushwhack, but other hikers on trail said Engine Hill was muddy and wasn't confident I could find Isoexpress so stuck to trails; a little longer but elevation gain about the same. Muddiest section is Isolation Trail above last river crossing. Grades are moderate so just requires moderate rock hopping. Stick to trail; some bypasses ended up being muddier than trail. My first time back on Davis Path in ~38 years! Davis Path has a few muddy flat sections but are manageable. Only saw 1 dog all day and ~25 hikers most of whom were day hikers. Long but fulfilling day with great views on Isolation Summit.
