Uki made such a big deal of the ideal autumn conditions on Iso Express that Scott and I had to see if her write up was accurate, or if maybe she needed a bit more forced recovery. Fortunately for everyone involved, Uki was right!
The first couple of miles are leafy, which is fine for the way up but makes for quite a game of "what am I stepping on?" on the way down. Go slow and your ankles should survive. The normal wet spots along the old rail tracks have some mud, but the rocks are dry and mostly hoppable.
Mole Hill bushwhack is in very good shape with a few small muddy spots, and is followed by a lot of dry trail. Consider following this up to Davis if you've never explored the woods around Iso before. But for those who have done Iso in the winter and love Iso Express....WOW. It is a mossy, soft, emerald green joy to be on. It's easy to lose down low in a few spots, but after that it's like hiking 100 years ago before the rocks and roots took over. Even the muddy spots look so cool that they're impossible to be mad at.
Davis is in great shape, as is the spur. And it's always fun to see a familiar face up high, even if you forget each other's names!
Short version: Iso is in great shape, Iso Express is even better, and Uki seems to have her wits about her. |
