I did some redlining and decided to summit just for the thrill. It was 40 mph wind on the socked in summit cone, with rime ice and low visibility. I didn’t need my spikes, and there was surprisingly liquid water on the rocks despite the windchill of 10 degrees today. I was glad to have winter gloves. I ran into a slightly hypothermic thru hiker who was the only person I saw, I hope he is ok and drying out. It did rain/ sleet on the way down but not much and was able to jog the bottom half, which was dry on the way up but wet on the way down. The loop was 13 miles, 4,600’ and took almost 6 hours. |
