Comments
Comments: Started at Smarts Brook Trailhead. At 1.4 miles, took Yellow Jacket Trail counterclockwise. Started bushwhack at stone chair & followed a herd path. Ascended the ledges as seen on satellite images with great views of the fall foliage. Continued on a herd path, until it veered toward Acteon Peak, we bushwhacked in a more northerly direction toward the col and headed toward Bald Knob. Found another herd path directly to the summit. No canister. Views westerly of Welch, Dickey, Moosilauke, Kineo, and Carr. Returned on same herd path, then bushwhacked northeast to summit, finding some nice ledges and views along the way. Signed into relatively new register and jar on the wooded Acteon Peak. Descended off Acteon Peak but mistakenly headed toward Jennings. Corrected to the col and followed the ridge to Sachem navigating through some tricky ledges. Signed in to another fairly new register and jar. Had lunch on the open summit and snapped a lot of photos. Took some time for us to find our way off of Sachem but eventually made our way down the eastern ridge. Shwacked south and hit a moss covered boulder field at approximately 2600 feet. Emerged onto the Smarts Brook trail, 4 miles back to the car.
