The Forest Service was grading the road today with a large backhoe. I don’t know if this marks an effort to reopen the road. The washout is certainly impressive, but there is at least 12 feet width of intact road. The backhoe clearly went above this area and I also noticed a large horse trailer at the house above the washout. The washout area would require that only one car at a time goes up or down across this short area, but I’m wondering if the road might be reopened. The large parking lot at the actual trailhead remains in good shape. Fingers crossed! |

Nothing to add to recent reports, except that walk under tree is large, greater than 12 inch diameter. The crawl under tree is also good sized. I think both would be challenging to clear. |

A beautiful first day of fall! Lots of reds starting to show up on trees in lower areas of Pemigewasset Wilderness and toward Stairs Mt. I met a gentleman at the summit who was completing #48. What a beautiful peak to do it on! Terrific views of most of the 48, and well into ME, VT, NY! |
