I started out on FR 17A and took it to about 2400', then I turned NNE because topo shows a very steep area that I wanted to avoid. At about 2800' I jogged a little NW and meandered around to the summit. Gaia says the summit elevation is 3281, so it was interesting when I reached 3300' and still below the summit. The canister says the elevation is 3335'. Mine was the first register entry in 2026. I was planning on going over to the summit of Sable, but I when I got to the col I decided I didn't feel like anymore uphill for the day so I wandered down to some flat areas to the SE, then back over to FR 17A and out. Pants or high gators are highly advisable for this FR. My legs took a awful thrashing. The welcomed early autumn weather was stunning, with dew points actually in the 30s and temps in 60s.
