Comments
Comments: The Beaver Brook Trail is my favorite approach to Mt Moosilauke because of the cascades. However, today the iciness on the steep section of trail near the cascades made the hike a challenge. I only had microspikes for traction. With careful foot placement on bare rocks, roots, steps, etc I successfully avoided any falls. Most of the steep ice sections were prior to the brook crossing below the shelter spur trail. There was one ice flow off a ledge near Mt Blue that required care to pass. Uphill from the shelter it was mainly a monorail walk until the exposed summit dome. The monorail held together well for the most part even in the warm temperatures. The trail was muddy above tree line. I saw no other hikers all day.
