Bad news - the access road most have used for this across from the storage units is now posted right at Rt 110. After a slew of anti-ATV signage, there's a clear Posted No Trespassing sign slightly uphill.
So we pivoted and parked at the pullout adjacent to the powerline swath just NW on Rt 110. The swath itself had a degrading posted sign, but the woods next to it looked clear so parked and launched from here.
There are also a bunch of decent parking options on the NE side of 110 in this stretch and there's also an Adventure business on the SW side of Rt 110 that I bet would let folks hike up from there if you asked / paid to park. |

From our parking spot, we whacked up in mostly good woods to the ATV junction at around 1475ft. There was a closed gate preventing ATVs from descending the access road, so even if the access road were not posted, this gate would prevent driving beyond this spot. But the road itself was in good shape. We followed it to the summit cone. In hindsight, seems like the best herd path to the summit is from the NE, but we went up from due North, following an overgrown road after an initial scramble. Tightened up a bit at the top and found the jar with pink tape, which isn't in the blowdown on the obvious highpoint, but close to it.
From here we whacked NE, crossing the access road and hitting some old roads before we hit a lightly used, but lovely old ATV road. You can see it's outline on sat, heading almost due E/W. Muddy in parts, but made great time on this and followed it past a few junctions all the way to Forest. After the ledges, we whacked to the true summit, then back to the road and followed it all the way back to the 1475ft junction. The junction had lots of intimidating signage and a camera prohibiting ATVs from heading this way towards Forest, but nothing I saw prohibiting foot traffic. You can guess how we descended back to the car from here.
2:40 in total. 30 mins to the 1475ft junction, 50 from junction to Jericho, 40 from Jericho to Forest and 40 mins back to the car. Would have been sub-2 if the road wasn't posted. |
