 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Blazing on Saco River Trail is good but inconsistent. Someone looks to have just taken a can of spray paint and painted rocks on the ground, which is helpful for seven months out of the year. Westside Trail could use more blazes that are intelligible, this trail meanders so much for no reason. No real blowdowns or anything of impediment |

A FINE day in the forest was had. This was our third hike of the day and it was quite lovely. We saw only one person on this 8.5 mile loop, who said person seemed to be lost. The recurring theme for the day was "why does this trail even exist" which I am sure with more redlining, that will keep coming up. We found great footing throughout. Only turned around a couple times on Saco. Maggies Run was a bit odd, but we figured it out. We came out Dry River Connection, hopped across the road, butterflied the extension, then kept going all the way to Pleasantville Roadside pulloff. From here we out and backed the 0.4 remaining of Maggie's that reconnects with Saco River Trail, then opted to walk the road to westside. Saco River trail was very, very buggy. So much so that even to stop and take a picture of the sign, I looked down and had SIX mosquitos on one leg! Westside Trail is probably the stupidest trail I have been on to date. It's existence really is questionable as to why it was cut as it doesn't really serve a purpose I think that isn't already existing. It meanders like that of a drunk man, its incredibly serpentine and one mile of pointless ups and downs. There was more elevation in this trail than the preceding 11 miles of our day, for really no reason. Anyways can't complain when its touron central and you see one person. He definitely did plan his hike, because he rattled off all the trail names he was using, but he was going from Kedron Flume to Ripley Falls, but I guess to some people the 20 minute hike from the car isnt enough, you have to do it in expert mode. |
