Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: N/A except the small stream at the start. Bring water!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some significant blowdowns required climbing and ducking. Some use trails have developed. A few precariously balanced trees over the trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No dogs, alas! Would have been a hot one for a pup.
Bugs
Bugs: My face was basically a windshield. Mosquitoes and midges all the way up and down.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found a black pair of leggings and matching hoodie, which we draped over the sign. We also found a coffee cup and liquid death at the first junction. Not cool especially with bear activity (see below). We took those out.

Comments
Comments: Incredibly hot and humid day. We got a late start but still managed to get a spot in the lot, but the main spaces were full. As we approached the trail junction we ran into two hikers coming back due to a bear sighting. Apparently the bears had ambled off the trail so we decided to keep going, but made a ton of noise. We didn’t see anything for our entire hike, so they may just have been passing through, but we kept eyes and ears open. The rest of our climb was uneventful, if incredibly humid and buggy. The slabs were dry and easy to ascend, with some wetter rocks near the end. The summit was lovely, totally clear and temporary relief from the bugs when the wind blew in our direction. We didn’t stay long as we saw rain clouds approaching and there was no way we wanted to descend those slabs in the rain. Luckily things stayed dry until much later in the evening. This was my husband’s first ascent of Moriah and my second. I found it much easier in winter!
