Fun day for Pepper. He got in several sip 'n dips, the trails were easy and temps comfy, and he told lots of critters that Marshall Pepper was back in town. We saw one other dog on N. Tripyramid. |

Barebooted through the open part of the south slide, with a bit of ice at its base requiring some focus. The main slide in its open sections was mostly free of snow or ice, and no problem. But the upper part in the woods was slippery ice and packed snow, so I put on the microspikes which helped a lot there, and kept them on until reaching dry trail on Scaur although they really didn't help much in those sections due to the wet snow. That wet snow, however, made the steep sections coming down each peak and on Pine Bend much easier, providing stable enough bootprints to go down. But if someone butt slides or boot slides things could get slippery, and spikes could become essential.
From Scaur I watched 3 people going up the north slide, which looked to be snow covered. Yikes. I carried snowshoes but unlike yesterday's hike, I never used them. It was another wonderful day out, mostly sunny, light wind, comfy temps, easy footbeds and open woods. Thanks Pepper for another great day. |
