 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We spotted a car at the cog hiker parking area ($10 to park) and drove over to the parking area for the Ammonoosuc Ravine trail ($5 to park or the WMNF pass). Both lots had plenty of room and the restrooms at the Ammo lot were well stocked. |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |

 | Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
All easy rock hops today but some of the crossings on the re-route of Ammo could get just a tad tricky in high water. We saw evidence of logs and limbs thrown into the water to help with tougher crossings. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Nothing of note. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
No hiking puppers seen today. The rocks are rough and can be tough on dogs' paws. There is also little water along the route unless you fill up at the Hut and/or visitor's center but dogs are not allowed in either place. |
|
 | Bugs: |
We found black flies to be a nuisance in all parking lots and they made a reappearance as we descended along side the cog. Lower down they were stupidly obnoxious. |
|
 | Lost and Found: |
Lynn found a broken pair of readers eyeglasses near the Gem Pool and packed them out. |

 | Comments: |
This was a DAY! We knew the weather was supposed to be dreamy and it was. The summits were in the clouds on our drive in but the clouds lifted and the winds were gentle. It was a PRESI day! The new re-route for the Ammo trail is a circuitous and muddy route. It just meanders all over the place and by the time we reached the Gem Pool I was sure the weekend had passed and it was now Monday. The steeps on Ammo were mostly dry with some areas of wet rock. Crawford Path and the Monroe Loop were both dry and the footing was excellent. Gulfside was also dry and made for pleasant walking. The descent along the cog is what it is. Steep and loose. We just watched our footing and chatted up a storm to distract ourselves. This was a stellar day to celebrate Lynn gridding out June for her over 60 grid. And the icing on the cake was bumping into Donna and Andrea in the basement of the visitors center where all the gridiots were hanging out to hide from the far too peopley area upstairs. |
