 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
From rt 26, turn at old Bull Moose restaurant sign. Stay left at immediate fork. Followed this to the landing at the HOL due east of the peak. Road was rough but passable in AWD Rav4 - lots of rutting and loose rocks on the steeper stretches. Wouldn't be surprised if this becomes unpassable in a year or two. |

Having just done the southern of the two Hampshires (see that report why I didn't combine the two), we drove around to access this from the east. We set off from the landing at the only visible entrance to the woods - over an old bridge of sorts. The skidder paths here are awful - waist high prickers, dense enough you can't see the ground. Our path took us a bit south of a straight line to the peak, which in hindsight was a mistake. Fought through this until about 1950ft where the logging stopped and we had goods woods. Easy from here to the summit. Descending we stayed a bit more north, which gave us woods until closer to 1850 and then found a moderately helpful skidder road that eventually veered too far north so we ducked back into the woods popping out a couple hundred feet north of the car.
Definitely a better route than our ascent. 35 mins up, 20 mins down and glad I didn't try to combine these peaks. |
