 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
From Rt 26, south on Lakeside Road, turn left on Hampshire Hills rd then left on a spur road SW of the peak. Left on another spur road at about 1800 ft. All roads in remarkably good condition - a handful of bumps/dips and one stretch west of the peak with minor flooding (beaver?) but all passable and mostly 25mph type roads. I could see that flooded stretch becoming a problem in future years or after a big storm. Parking area at the end of the last spur road was muddy and could become problematically muddy with more rain - it'd be a bad place to get stuck. |

Remarkably little info available on this peak, hence the write up. I initially planned to do this with Hampshire North, but once I saw the good looking roads to SW, I opted to break them up.
The skidder paths are pretty rough in this area - not as bad at Hampshire - North, but not pleasant. We walked along the main contouring skidder path a little too far, looking for pockets of woods to ascend in to avoid the skidders. Ended up nearing the summit from the west instead of the south, which was a mistake as there were some spicy cliff bands in there. Nice new sign at the summit :)
Descended via the skidder to the south, still popping in the woods whenever possible. 20 mins up, and 20 mins down. Definitely better than trying to combine the peaks. |
