Comments
Comments: A FINE day in the forest was had. An important distinction, there is a Sanguinary Ridge Trail for hiking, and for XC. What's mentioned here is XC ski. I also question this hike's initial access from a legal perspective and it does not feel right with me personally. While its heavily signed the ROAD is closed and no trespassing, and cameras galore, all prior reports (and us) side hilled along the road, which is terrible for about .25 miles before the woods get better. Technically it's not "THE ROAD" but I don't feel that's what was implied by the sign. Regardless. After aforementioned side hill the woods do open up nicely and joining up with Sanguinary Ridge (XC) is nice and ferny, not too muddy. It ends in an open field with a dam for Lake Abeniki, from there we took an ATV road past a logging road that leads to a log yard, and found a nice place to enter the woods and turned toward the broad ridge crest NE of the summit. Found good wood for basically the entire way. One small cliff band of note but seemingly a handful of options of ingress and egress (Think South Sugarloaf). First sign in this year. Don't let the initial sidehill fool you, this is a relatively easy mover. 4.1 miles, ~2.5h door to door
