 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We parked at a pulloff past "Crystal Mountain Road" - driving past a cabin with an antler on the picnic table, but before the 2nd (and 3rd - which we turned around in). It's about 5.0 - 5.1 miles from the intersection of CB/4m. Coarser Brook Road is in passable shape, no real issues just slow going and bumpy. Tighten your bra straps and dentures. There are some collapsed/collapsings CMP culverts but none of them are tire shredders yet. There is one good size rut towards the junction of Coarser Brook and Fourmile that I had to get out both times to just make sure I lined myself up right but nothing bad. Fourmile is in better shape |

A FINE day in the forest, even when it wasn't. A combination of my 5th day in this heat and last nights rain made this one one I truly did not actively enjoy doing whatsoever, even in retrospect. While it is short, the logging cuts are very grown in, rutted, and muddy. Also it was about 90 degrees at 9am and 1000% humidity. This is up there with one of the worst whacks/lines so far. After this its rapid improvement above the cuts, but it was full body kung foo getting to it. I am glad this one is done, because if the more of the 500 where like this one, I would quit now. Just terrible and not enjoyable, and thats from someone who likes pain and misery. HOWEVER! Twinkletoes had given me a waypoint to go visit from her trek here last week... so the day was redeemed by a moose skull, two mandibles, two scapula's, about six leg bones, some vertebrae, and eight rib bones. I plan on making a jolly roger symbol and a wind chime because im macabre like that. Much better line on the way out. Maybe don't try this one when its humid, and you just worked 3 12's in 90 degree heat before it :) |
