Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Tuesday, June 9, 2026
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of room at the Liberty Springs trailhead but I was surprised to find a good 10 cars already there at 7:15am.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easy rock hops that didn't even require thought or pre-planning my route.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail were in fine condition. The lower portion of Liberty Springs trail below the water crossings had the usual muddy areas but there were plenty of rocks to use to keep your feet out of it.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No puppers seen today. :( This route is great for dogs but water is limited once you get above the tentsite and that water source is the one used by hikers staying there so they would probably prefer your dog not stick their tongue in it. :)
Bugs
Bugs: I did the bug spray thing right in the parking lot but down low they really were not an issue. The summits of both peaks were well represented by the black fly brigade. I had my bug net within reach but just opted for a short stay to avoid them.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: There was $1.20 in change in a little pile on the summit of Flume. I left it there in case it was payment to the bugs to stay away. On my descent back down Liberty I came across a single slipper. It was kind of like a LL Bean moccasin style with the fluffy lining. I hung it on a tree right next to the trail in case the owner was on the summit. Hopefully they were reunited.

Comments
Comments: I almost pivoted to crash Lynn and Rhonda's hike after bumping into Rhonda in the McD's bathroom but decided to stick with the original plan. The Pemi trail was in great shape as was Liberty Springs. The rocks were nice and dry which made for a slightly speedier ascent and descent and no slips or falls. Franconia Ridge was in great shape and was mostly dry. There were a few muddy areas but the mud was drying out nicely and was supportive and not squelchy. Views were lovely this morning until the black flies arrived.
