Comments
Comments: I wore snowshoes the entire trip until 1/3 way down Osseo Trail. My friend wore microspikes. We saw 7 others on the Lafayette/Lincoln loop who only wore crampons, although full crampons were not needed today. Old Bridle Path solidly packed out. After the hut, some significant drifts required trail breaking from the hut until 2/3 up the dome of Lafayette, the conditions turned to rime ice (sp?) which was fine with light traction. Coming off Lafayeette and over to Lincoln quite a bit more significant drifts requiring breaking as every one was postholing. From Little Haystack to Liberty Springs lots of snow covered low hanging branches and 4-6 of new snow or snow drifts filled the packed trail underneath. Well packed up Liberty and over to Flume (met 2 more dogs). Top 3rd of Osseo was packed but not super solid, and as we descended the trail really consolidated into a sidewalk for the rest of the way out. Super Day - bright sunshine all day and even with the stiff winds on Lafayette it was still warm enough for just one fleece shirt, a hat and gloves.
