Trails
Trails: Pasture Path
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, May 22, 2026
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at the end of Pasture Path Rd in Randolph. The guidebook didn't specify a parking situation here and there was no designated parking are, but room on the road to park, so we did. No note on the car when we finished, so I think this is probably fine. Winter might even be okay, too.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: I think there were four or five water crossings, all of which were readily rock hopable but could require a little thinking if water was real high.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I think there's some spring cleanup that needs to be done. Not too numerous or dfficult, but there were a handful of blowdowns, one or two a little difficult to clamber over or under and another one or two with a herd path forming around them. I think some of them were large.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Good hike for dogs: no scrambling and lots of water. Just a little steep closer to the Lookout Ledge.
Bugs
Bugs: They were awful at the time, but I'm writing this very late.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments
Comments: A wonderful hike with my beautiful mother for her birthday weekend. She's been reading about the history of Randolph and the RMC, so she really wanted to do a hike in the area, and this fit the bill! The trail contours for a way to connect the two roads, then remains flat for a while before turning SW and beginning to gently ascend as it crosses several brooks. Once the trail is out of the drainage and on the ridge, it ascends more moderately, then steeply as it nears the summit. No scrambling, though; just a little below treeline rock/ledge that's very minimal. Very muddy in some areas with recent rain. Water was high, too, but the crossings were still very doable. Great views of Kings Ravine across Rt 2 from the Lookout. Gaia had us at 4.75mi, 600ft of gain.
