Comments
Comments: Took the route from Livermore to avoid some of the steeps on Pine Bend Brook Trail. Dry trail until just after the first intersection with Mt. Tripyramid Trail (to the south slide), then a trace to an inch of snow at the Scaur Ridge junction, increasing to 4-6" up to Pine Bend Brook junction and up to 8" of fluffy new snow up to Middle Tri and back - definitely more than we had expected. Very faint monorail visible up to the peaks but didn't really posthole the few times I missed it. Had microspikes on for the steeps - not sure how much they actually helped because the sticky snow would ball up quickly, and because the boiler plate ice reported over the weekend was pretty much buried by the new snow covering it - still a bit slow going on the steeps but still very manageable. Would consider bringing snowshoes if they get a few more inches of new stuff. A moose came through and badly postholed a few tenths of the trail just below the steeps while we were on the ridge. No sign of recent tracks on our route, or up from Pine Bend, Sabbaday Brook or any other direction on Mt. Tripyramid trail. Spitting mixed precip all day but nothing significant - even got a decent view with partial clearing from the lookout near Middle. Great day out with the hiking beast - we had the trails to ourselves!
