Brooks Fisher has to be the easiest route up to the Squam Range ridgecrest thanks to its abundant switchbacks. No issues along the ridge. Old Mountain Rd., er, I mean, Old Mountain Brook, was a wet, sloppy, muddy mess thanks to its heavily eroded state. This looked to be recently "enhanced" by a Jeep driver.
I closed this loop using the blue-blazed bootleg trail that connects Old Mountain Rd. to Brooks Fisher Trail. While this brought me back to where I wanted to go, I don't think I would use it again. The route is generously marked with plastic and paint blazes of various shapes and sizes, including crazy blazes. This was a good thing as the corridor is not always apparent. It was also quite wet and buggy down low where it follows an ancient logging road. |
