 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at a large log landing on Cow Spur Road, approximately 1.3 miles from its junction with Newell Brook. We where going to attempt whats known as "Grass Road" (street sign), just south of Rock Pond Road. However with the sheer volume of ATV traffic and having to cross a bridge while going uphill and turning, we were not going to attempt. (Also a major ATV corridor) Grass Road does NOT connect to "Cow Spur" (signage) from the north. Catch the southern end about mm2 on Newell Brook Road, just south of Black Camp Road. This is actually an extremely pretty road with flowers in the crown and edges. It is not an ATV trail, and is only a spur line for logging. No connections evident for highway or ATV's from this side to the north. Even a low clearance vehicle here would be fine (though not the best idea) |

A FINE way to end the day, well, sort of. We parked at the far end of this log landing and there are two generally parallel skidder lines going in a southwest direction. We ascended via the right, but came down the left. We found generally great, easy moving woods here as well. Nothing ever remotely what I would call thick. There is a very big network of skid roads that will aid you to get to the summit. Looking at my track, we where able to keep on aforementioned SW bearing generally to just below summit cone ascent, there is some cliff bands and what not here, one 'menacingly' steep section, compared to everything else through the day. (It's no Vose Spur). Summit geography is definitely interesting with a saddle shape, slightly disorienting the way I hit it but thanks to my idiot machine, I mean a phone, I was able to find the summit. A great day with two awesome ladies who are well on their way to a pretty large milestone. I am just their willing victim, fueled by Polish Princess and the thought of not seeing other people on holiday weekends! :) |
