Conditions: Today it was raining down low and snow/sleet at the higher elevations. The trail was bare, wet, and a little muddy until about half way up through the Hardwoods. From there, and until the turn for the traverse, there was about 1" of new snow. The new snow depth increased until there was about 4-5 inches from Starr King to Waumbek, all of it over a solid base. One flow ice section, just passed the spring, was hidden under the snow and got me. So, I put my Hillsounds on from there to the summits and back. Had a hard time keeping the spikes from balling. Other than the slow going in the new snow, the trail was in good shape.
Met up with two fellows from UNH doing a research project. If you see some orange flagging and are wondering what it's about? It's part of their project.
Winter was back today. |
