Comments
Comments: The lower section of the Starr King Trail through the hardwood forest was mostly bare ground with some short sections of surface mud. Once the trail enters the conifers the trail was powdery snow on top of an icy base. There were three ice flows across this section of trail. Just below the summit of Starr King the trail became mainly hard packed snow and remained as such to the outlook area just beyond the summit of Mt Waumbek.

The Kilkenny Trail had many post holes that were not too deep. The ridge was mostly snow covered with a powdery snow layer of varying depth over a consolidated base. The were numerous downed trees across the Kilkenny Ridge Trail which were not difficult to get by.

I bare booted to Mt Starr King, used micropspikes to Mt Waumbek, switched to snowshoes for the remainder of the ridge walking. On descent from Starr King used microspikes which proved adequate traction over the icy slope. Views were limited today due to persistent snow showers. Met only two other hikers today.
