I hiked up to a nice beaver bog area at 1400', beteween White Ledge, Carter Ledge, and Blue Mtn. From the Kancamagus, I hiked the forest road that follows Hobbs Brook until it becomes a herd path. There was a fun little snow squall for an hour or so, just enough to be interesting. Huge wads of frog eggs in the beaver ponds, some old moose bones, some bear nests in the beech trees, and some circling vultures (I'm not dead yet!) and a newly-arrived winter wren's song were the highlights of a nice full day hike in snow-free forest. |
