Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The 2 bridged water crossings on the 19 MBT above the Carter Dome Trail junction were spirited springtime flow but not raging and the log crossings were easy and appreciated.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Large blowdown on the lower 19 MBT that's been there all winter but the foot traffic around it is creating a herd path closer to the brook. There is 3 moderate sized blowdowns on the 19 MBT above the Carter Dome Trail junction that are easy step overs.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No pups today.
Bugs
Bugs: A few scouts out and about.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Lots of winter trash picked up and removed.

Comments
Comments: Bare ground and bareboots up 19 MBT to about a quarter mile below the height of the land in Carter Notch. Trail down low is in good shape but a typical spring time mess above the 2 bridged water crossings with lots of running water, mud, and increasing remnant ice and snow. Going up the Carter Moriah Trail to Carter Dome was a mix of snow, ice and bare ground rocks but the rock spikes worked reasonably well even on the descent (I briefly barebooted a small stretch descending as it was easier and safer). Above the very steep section of the CM Trail (above Pulpit Rock) it is again a mix of bare ground snow and ice but increasingly more snow with at times a narrow side sloping monorail. I postholed once or twice if I strayed off the packed midline. I didn't go beyond the CD summit and purposely avoided the route up the CD Trail via Zeta Pass due to the 2 unbridged water crossings (19 Mile Brook was roaring) and the likely Side Slope of Doom below the Mt Hight junction. Water levels are very high so beware!
