Amazingly dry with minimal mud. We’ve never done this stretch of the Wapack so it was a nice change of pace. There were Just a few viewpoints toward Pack/North Pack and Grand Monadnock but we enjoyed the gentle hills and great snow-free conditions. Just one avoidable snow patch nearing Burton and that’s it. Turned around after Burton and before the Berry Pasture Tr as clouds were thickening. Interesting set of “sculptures” near Holt Peak by a cairn-maker who build twin towers and a Stonehenge-type circle, plus other handiwork. Super impressed by trail runners out today including a foursome doing a complete south to North Wapack Tr traverse who passed us at around 1 pm as they headed toward Pack/North Pack. Descended back to car on Wapack without realizing it was a big gravely old logging road; preferred the Beebe Tr. |
