 | Comments: |
TRT was bare boots in morning, started Boott Spur Trail in boots but quickly added snowshoes & kept these on (except for the ladder) breaking trail in several inches of fresh snow to and beyond treeline. Used spikes on the ladder and it was fine. Above treeline was a combo of ice, dry rock, and loose snow. Past Boott Spur peak on Davis Path to Lawn Cutoff was drifted, in spots to my knees. We postholed that because in between drifted stretches were stretches of icy rock. We wore spikes going up & crampons going down. Descending Boott Spur Link was tedious. Rock/ice/snow mix above treeline and soft snow below (used crampons & trekking poles, ice axe didn't seem necessary in conditions). Took off the crampons for the TRT but the last mile used spikes because it was getting icy. It is spring in the mountains. |
