saw it all today. Nice soft trail with some ice monorail to the ravine. We put on spikes there which worked well on mixed terrain..some solid monorail..some frozen postholes. Once past Scaur Jct the monorail became more pronounced but still only a foot or so. We put on the Hillsound minicramps before the steeps..frankly they were overmatched in places by the hard frozen snow and occasional stretches of hidden blue ice..I for one wish I had had the g-10's in the bag. Trip between the peaks a slow trek over incredibly postholed frozen choppy granular. Snowshoes of no use here today and we were glad to have left them in the car...it was tedious today in the colder temps. temps and winds in the 20's made for a chilly time on the peaks but the views were excellent and far reaching. Not the smoothest hike of the year but still a great day out with Valerie |
