19-MBT and CDT well packed out (caught up with three x-c skiers at Zeta Pass). CMT to north unbroken since the wNH4s record attempt traverse on Sunday, with much drifting and numerous bent over firs from the snow loading (new snow depths ranged from 4 to 12+ inches, not including drifts). Lost the trail a few times, including my turn-around point in the open area about 0.2 mi south of Middle; spent about 20 minutes wallowing in spruce traps before giving up, as the hour was late and the wind was picking up. First time in 15 trips that I have not picked up S&M Carter together, my last pair of NH4s to be done separately. Beautiful bluebird sky day. |
