Comments
Comments: We were able to bare-boot the whole day. Much of the snow in the valley has melted leaving just patches here and there. As you progress in elevation, there are some degrading monorails between about 2300-2600ft. Above that, there is mostly consistent snowpack ranging from about 6in to 3ft. Particularly on steeper sections, there is some thick ice, we were able to navigate around the ice, but it does make some sections a little more challenging. Despite the deep snowpack still hanging around in many locations, the recent rain has frozen it solid to the point that snowshoes were not needed and we never sank more than a couple inches, usually not sinking at all. The lack of footprints in the snow did make it hard to follow the trail at times, and we lost the trail several times (the blowdowns didn't help either). Didn't see anyone the entire, but we did see lots of evidence of moose.
