I'm a big proponent of snowshoes to keep the trail in good condition and I hate postholing but this trail is virtually a sidewalk all the way to the summit and in my opinion in today's weather conditions snowshoes were not necessary as the trail is solid. With that in mind I bare booted to the top of the rise before the third water crossing and then put on microspikes from there to the summit. On the way down I put on snowshoes to break out the loop below the summit from the most recent snow which in hindsight would have been a lot easier to go up than down. Kept the snowshoes on all the way to the bottom for fun and because I could go faster and ultimately got down in record time. I enjoy Tecumseh in the late winter because the trail is just a steep sidewalk and you can fly up and down. In the summer the rocks slow me down. |
