Webster-Jackson was in great shape from start to finish. Stay in the middle of the trail and you’re good. Step off the middle, it’s firm and firmly filled with postholes. Last 2/10ths of a mile to Jackson was firm and stable, much easier to climb than in summer and the rock slabs near the peak were bare, with some purchase for your spikes on the margins.
Webster Cliff trail from Jackson to Mitzpah hut is not well traveled. Going down Jackson is a bit spicy so take your time. Buttsled tracks have turned to ice. Spike has some decent area to purchase softer ice on margins in these areas. Rest of trail to Mitzpah is ok to travel with spikes or snowshoes. Plenty of snow… and postholes!
Mitzpah Hut to Pierce was pleasant with some great steps, really enjoyable. I always love this section so take my comment of really enjoyable with a grain of salt!
Pierce to Eisenhower was a mix of raised monorail, ankle to knee high drifts, and a few spots of exposed rock. With the traffic today, it will depend on last group going through on whether they had snowshoes or spikes on.
Crawford Path below Pierce was a dream.
And with all the rain tomorrow, who knows what will happen to these trails! |
