 | Comments: |
A fresh layer of powdery snow on top of the usual late-winter packed trail. Generally in good shape up to the lake, but heavy postholing on a few stretches beyond there made for slow travel. The stretch immediately beyond the junction with the cascade brook trail was probably the worst with deep postholes and water crossings that have melted out to the bog bridges.
Snowshoes were frequently appreciated as the fresh snow was deep and loose enough to prevent spikes from getting good grip, but flotation was only necessary in a few unpredictable spots where the trail has softened and/or narrowed.
Worth highlighting that I was on the early side this morning, so take this report with a grain of salt. Everything above the lake seemed a little unstable, so I wouldn't be surprised to see trail conditions change throughout the day, and I would expect the trail to look significantly different the next time we have above-freezing temps and/or rain. |
