Comments
Comments: 22 degrees at trailhead, with 7am start; only vehicle in parking lot; .7 mile road walk and Squirrel bridge crossing, passing several homes until you hit Blueberry Ledge trail; Solid ice/snow packed; Crampons only but snowshoes went along for ride; Spirits were high until you see the random dummy who post-holed the entire trail; somebody's legs were at least 4 feet deep in some places; focus is now on where NOT to step to avoid breaking an ankle, instead of enjoying beautiful scenery; On Rollins Trail, I stumbled to avoid a giant posthole, and stabbed my hand into a spruce tree - got a puncture wound on palm of hand, there is blood everywhere just so you know; but luckily, today Friday the 13th, my first aid kid provided excellent relief; Blueberry ledges are ice covered and dangerous; had to throw pack up over 1 ledge, and crawl up on belly; take your time and choose your path and hand grips wisely; Passaconaway loop very icy, dangerous descent in some places; Diceys Mill trail had soft snow last 2-3 miles with increased temp; time for a good Podcast or music (bring portable battery charger) or it will seem like the trail goes on forever; total hike time was 8.5 hours overall including road walk and rests; did not see or hear a single soul but I see someone posted report on same day; lot had 2 more cars on return
