First water crossing was snowbridged and felt stable. Second crossing is open but was easily crossed - the water was low enough that I just walked on the large smooth rocks on the river bed as opposed to the rocks someone placed on top a while ago |

Spikes all the way yesterday. Snowed about 2 maybe 3 inches here in Jackson overnight but I know it's helpful to know conditions beforehand.. Avalon Trail was slightly undulating but not terribly or consistently postholed on the trail (the sides of every trail were severely punched through). A-Z Trail was a bit more choppy - lots of postholes from bareboots and snowshoes, and there were many spots of VERY thin track/monorail. Some spots it seems half the trail has disintegrated from postholes but there's some semi firm spots on the side. Mount Tom Spur Trail had the most monorail like conditions but not too terribly thin or postholed. I took a lot of care in my footing and steps as I'm still dealing with an injured foot. All in all it was a bumpy ride and will probably require some care after the new snow. Saw only one family of four who went up to Field and over to Tom. It felt great to be back on trail and this mountain is now gridded out for me! |
