Excellent report for previous poster (Pepper and Me) convinced us that going up South peak first would be best, and boy that was the right call. I would advise doing the same right now, as the two steep sides of the loop have totally different conditions right now. Heading up the South peak, its a very steep trail, and there is a lot of hard, thick ice flows sometimes hidden by thin layer of new powder, and deeper crusty snow. Most experienced winter hikers will be fine with micropsikes, though expect to slip and slide a bit. I went up it in crampons to be more efficient and secure. Would not have wanted to head down it without crampons or at least aggressive snowshoes. Going down from the north peak was a breeze, basically just an inch of new snow, very little ice, kind of like conditions after the first october snow. Micro's more than sufficient.
