 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We parked at the Great Gulf lot with the hopes of using the Camp Dodge cut off, but that trail cutoff was not marked at all and thus unreliable. Ended up hiking to the end of Imp and walking up Rt 16 to meet car in GG lot. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Significant, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow - Spring Snow, Snow/Ice - Postholes, Slush |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The crossing at the first trail intersection was challenging but doable. Any more runoff and it could get dangerous. The last small, but deep crossing on lower Imp would have been easy, but the tree that fell in it was cut and left to maneuver over which yielded wet boots. |

 | Comments: |
Great hike… but… someone decided that snowshoes weren’t necessary. They were greatly mistaken! They proceeded to leave 3’ deep post holes that we had to navigate on the entire 2.7 mile ridge trail (Carter-Moriah). This greatly slowed us down and were thus out a lot longer than anticipated. PLEASE bring both traction and snow shoes so others can enjoy the trails too!!! If 60 year old women can carry both, so can younger and stronger folks. |
