Inversion this afternoon, with temperatures in the 50s at the trailhead and likely the 60s on the ridge.
Old Mountain Road is holding up better than I expected thus far, in part because it hasn't seen much Microspike/bareboot traffic yet. An earlier hiker without snowshoes postholed into slush, but not yet into the running water (will likely be the case by tomorrow if you try to go without snowshoes). Otherwise, it's still full snowpack for now.
Crawford Ridgepole has monorail emerging from the snowpack, which is not stable. The short scoured stretch amazingly still has snow/ice on it. Very soft on the ridge. Snowshoes a must unless you like postholing up to your gonads and trashing the trail for those who follow. |
