Comments
Comments: "Spring forward" might have sprung us all the way to mid-April. Pretty horrendous conditions out there, even in snowshoes. The slightest deviation from the center of the trail results in a thigh-deep posthole. Not to mention the people who were out today wearing spikes or crampons. This trail is going to be a posthole filled mess for the remainder of the season, even if we get a refreeze. It got chewed up really badly this weekend.

I parked closer to the XC ski trail, so I tried that first. It was very chewed up with postholes (some in snowshoes, and some not, despite the fact that snowshoes are required on that trail). The actual Greeley Ponds Trail was in better shape than the XC ski trail, though better is relative in conditions like these. Would recommend taking that over the ski trail.

I stayed in snowshoes for the steep sections heading up to East Osceola, which were totally fine, the snow was actually pretty grippy for that stretch. I saw a few people in crampons, which did not look helpful at all. There are some pretty deep snowbanks from the postholes on the steep stretch The ridge between the peaks was more of the same, fine in the middle of the trail, soft if you deviate at all. I saw a group descending the chimney with a rope. I took the bypass to the bypass.
