I took the snowmobile/ bike path over to the Old Man viewing. Saw only a couple snowmobiles out. I followed one set of tracks about 50’ up to the Greenleaf trail, which was well broken out and solid for snowshoes, with a few postholes from a bare booter. Pretty good conditions considering the huge meltdown yesterday and today. In Eagle Pass there was a short bit of sidehill and more postholes, but it looked good going up toward Lafayette after that. I was able to spot the snowshoe tracks from two guys who had been up the herd path today. They did a good job following it and it was only difficult the last short stretch in the scrub from the first view ledge to the summit. They had signed in the canister, but nobody else had all winter, probably because the canister is hanging below the snowpack, but had thawed enough today to be exposed. |
