Comments
Comments: Ohoboyohboyohboy! This was a PRESI day. And a day we had. We all started in snowshoes up to the hut. The trail is somewhat packed down low and unconsolidated up high so snowshoes were perfect. And televators. Need I say more? At the hut 2 of our crew changed into crampons, one changed into K-10s and I changed into Hillsound Pros for the ascent up Monroe. All forms of traction worked well. Snowshoes would have worked also. When we reached the hut again, we opted to stay in our current form of traction since the temps were warming up and the snow was sticky. We had good footing to Washington. The snowfield along Crawford Path had a definite sidehill, which just required care. The summit was beautiful with the sinde picking up a bit and the clouds beginning to roll in. The descent down the cog was not bad - not much ice and fairly grippy snow. The typical sketchy sections were just that - watch your footing and use good traction and you'll be fine. The snow by that time was stupidly sticky and was even balling up on crampons. Even so, this was a glorious day to be up high!
