 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
South Shaker Farm road plowed to within 1/3 mile of trailhead. There's a no parking sign at the plow turnaround and another sign at a nearby driveway, but there is also a plowed area big enough for 3-4 cars that may or not be legit. At North Shaker Farm road, the road is plowed to within 0.6 miles of the trailhead. No signage there. |

Still plenty of snow. In places the ski pole went in to the handle, even with a snow basket.
Some unfortunate post-holed the first 1/4 mile of the trail before realizing the error of their ways and turning back.
Somebody on snowshoes went up to the first rock step, around 0.7 mile, before the last storm, but their tracks were mostly covered.
We broke trail up to the Marion junction and beyond, to the 2600' mark, before hitting our turnaround time.
In the trees, the snow was still a bit fluffy and the snowshoes sank a foot or so.
In open areas, the snow had melted and refrozen a few times, and the snowshoes barely made a dent.
Still, we didn't meet anything hard enough to use spikes or an axe. |
