Whiteface Mountain Trail up to the stonewall had some random postholes, but was otherwise fairly well packed. Fortunately the traffic today looked to be with snowshoes.
Piper Whiteface Link from the stonewall to the ridge was littered with frozen postholes, thanks to someone who carelessly Microspiked in the warm temperatures yesterday. AWFUL.
Despite the warmer temperatures yesterday, it doesn't seem like we lost much snowpack (yet). There is a thin crust on the snowpack from the refreeze. Snowshoes will be needed when the warm weather returns in a few days. I wore them roundtrip today and was happy with the choice.
Sunny afternoon with temperatures in the 20s and a little bit of wind. |
