The road walk to the trailhead was well packed due to snow mobiles- bare booted on the way in and kept the snowshoes on for the way back. Edmands path had been broken out recently but was not consolidated. Snow shoes are definitely needed right from the start. Once we reached the stone gate (2.2 miles), the trail was drifted in and was a constant fight to get through the trees until the final turn to the Eisenhower loop. This .7 took well over an hour to navigate-- it was brutal. The winds and snow increased by the time we reached the trail junction and we couldn't see the trail so made the wise decision to turn back. |
