Comments
Comments: Great day on Carter Dome and the Wildcats! There was pretty low visibility for most of the day, but the sun came out a few times. I ended up wearing snowshoes the whole time and needed them on a large portion of this route. 19 Mile Brook to the Carter Dome Trail intersection is pretty much a highway at this point, but the Carter Dome Trail is very soft and unpacked. This continues from Zeta Pass to the summit of Carter Dome. The Carter-Moriah trail from the summit of Carter Dome to the View spur was broken out, but also very soft and loaded with postholes. From the View spur down to Carter Notch, the trail was more packed, though descending was a bit sketchy in places due to the steep grade. Wildcat Ridge from Carter Notch all the way to Wildcat D was broken out pretty well, but again the snow was very soft and unpacked. I ended up out-and-backing Wildcat D, and the trail definitely seemed a bit firmer on my return trip. The section of 19 Mile Brook from the Wildcat Ridge intersection down to the Carter Dome Trail intersection was basically spikes conditions at this point.

I'd say I saw about 30 people over the course of the whole day, mostly on 19 Mile Brook and Wildcat Ridge. Most people wore snowshoes, and from what I could see, the people wearing spikes seemed to be regretting it.
