My hiking partner and I were hoping to catch the from the hut or higher but started later than we should have (445am) , Mix of snowshoes and micro spikes today, Snow gets looser and more blown in around Eagle Cliff and beyond up to the hut, last 75' leading to hit we had to low - crawl on our hands and knees to avoid getting clobbered by the snow laden boughs, quite a few smaller blow downs, duck unders etc. nice challenge breaking in the trail a little more than it had been, new upcoming snow will do away with that easily, met a few nice folks on the trail, none came thru Greenleaf, great near blue bird out there today, minimal wind on the ridge, stayed up there half an hour enjoying the views and solitude, hadn't been up here in a few years and first winter ascent via Greenleaf was a bit laborious but worth the effort, hut to summit is in really nice shape, will never tire of the sound of micro spikes on hard packed snow, great day to be outside! |
